Rough Rock Community School
Rough Rock Community School (RRCS), formerly Rough Rock Demonstration School (RRDS), was founded in 1965. The Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) discussed the idea of a school which would help the Navajo people maintain and preserve their culture and heritage, and obtain a quality education at the same time.
During the early years (mid to late 60's), the school was funded by BIA, but controlled locally. However, several changes occurred which changed the status of the school.
The first change was due to Public Law 93-638 called the Indian Self Determination Act. It provided Indian Tribes with the ability to contract for services formerly carried out by a federal agency. Under the provisions of this law, RRCS became a Contract School in 1978. The second change occurred when RRCS applied for and received Grant status under Public Law 100-297. The school name has also changed, since it is no longer a demonstration project. It is now called Rough Rock Community School.

K-6 Academics
Greetings & welcome to Tse' Chi'izhi Biné Bi’olta, where our mission is to provide a rigorous, excellent, education in nurturing environement that is founded on the Diné fundamental principles of the Sa'ah Naaghai Bik'eh Hozhoon bik'ehgo (SNBH) to prepare students for post-secondary learning, careers and quality well-being. Our school is located in the north east part of Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. Our school offers K-6 Elementary Education that is a full academic school with certified teachers in 1st/KG Immersion class, KG, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade classroom.
Our students are offered Specials which include Physical Education, Diné Studies, Computer, and Library Science from Monday to Friday. Our students are also scheduled into Intervention, Social Studies, and Science classes.
Our resources are offered to students who need help in meeting their educational goals; whether it be Behavior Intervention Counseling, Special Education Program, Gifted & Talented, and of course the 21st Century Community Learning Center that begins from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday.
Last but not least, our school's assessments are crucial in our students' academic growth. There are NWEA Reading/Math (BOY/MOY/EOY), AZELLA, PARCC, AIMS Science, and ELL that are scheduled accordingly throughout the school year. This school year is one to celebrate for our students showed an increase in test scores that improvement is made.

Jr. High School
In our 7th grade, students are taught and educate according to guidelines provided by Rough Rock Community School. The classroom encompasses around the Arizona Common Core Standards, which is our foundation to our curriculum. The teacher teaches and educates students according to the educational needs, abilities, and attainment potential of individual students, all of whom are entrusted to him by their families. Furthermore, having deep respect for the Navajo customs/beliefs, he integrates those teachings into much of our class subjects. The teacher does his very best to ensure high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of the students.
In our 8th grade, teachers teach all the content areas from English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Navajo Language. Activities and Intervention or both reading and math. 55 min is spent on instruction. Teachers do weekly reading focused on how does my history have an impact on life? Students have been reading a lot of history and current events. Using a lot of graphic organizers to help the students narrow down their focus to main ideas and key details. As for math, classes have been working on surface areas and volume as our focus. Teaching the students to familiarize themselves with formulas to help find the surface area and volume Science the students are researching for their science projects that they will hopefully be ready for the science fair. Social Studies we are reading on people who have made impact in history whether it be poetry, music, acting, sports, writing, anything that parked an interest to the students. However, we are not forgetting those who made it possible to explore their freedom rights. Intervention were working fluency, vocabulary, multiplication, division, and real life problems. So far we have been discussing our future field trip plans for the end of the year. So fundraising and parent meeting will be coming for promotion as well. That's eighth grade and our plans for the rest of this school year.
